It was also a real nostalgia trip and heartwarming to read the similarities in mine and Josh’s childhood from the growing up in the middle of nowhere (in my case, Norfolk), the small class sizes and the very minor cases of rule breaking (one whole class detention). It also includes major TV events such as Princess Diana’s funeral, Euro 96 and the 97 election coverage, while featuring topics such as lad culture, Britpop, eclipse fever, adverts, teletext and the impending Millennium.

it's autobiographical, but mainly full of the most niche but relatable flashbacks to 90s tv and pop culture. To be honest, I checked out NetGalley first – but neither of them featured – but as the amazing podcast content is free, I didn’t begrudge actually paying for books for once! Like Lou I have bowel problems – not the same one, but still ‘anal wouldn’t help’ (this is a reference from the book – not me being completely weird when writing this blog post!Join Josh and Rob as they share the challenges and madness of their parenting journeys with lashings of empathy and extra helpings of laughs. Obviously Josh couldn't include everything, but one glaring omission for me was the Doctor Who TV movie on '96. We're always happy to answer any questions or queries you might have, please get in touch using one of the methods below. There were kids at my school who liked bands, kids who liked football and one weird kid who liked the French sport of petanque, however, we all loved Gladiators, Neighbours and Pebble Mill with Alan Titchmarsh (possibly not the third of these). is stand-up sensation and star of Channel 4’s ‘The Last Leg’, BBC2’s ‘Mock The Week’and Channel 4’s ‘Stand Up For The Week’, Josh Widdicombe’s highly anticipated debut DVD.

It's one of those books that will make you want to chat to the person nearest to you to discuss what you've just read and ask if they also remember Get Your Own Back or Knightmare. Anyway, Josh begins by discussing Gus Honeybun, a regional ITV children’s puppet famous to anyone growing up in the south-west of England at almost any point during the last four decades of the 20th century but wholly unfamiliar to me and the vast silent majority of the world who grew up anywhere else. The only elements I wasn’t keen on were the football (too much of it if you’re not a fan) and occasionally the sentences weren’t structured properly. With the success of the podcast, Beckett and Widdicombe decided there was plenty they hadn’t covered that would make a great audiobook.Matt Phillips, publisher for Blink and John Blake, acquired world rights in a major deal from Flo Howard at Off The Kerb. Filled with all the things they never tell you at antenatal classes, Parenting Hell is a beguiling mixture of humour and conversation from the hosts of the no. the books written by Josh Widdicombe and Rob Beckett – so when they had a co-written book come out, it was a no brainer.

I love the Parenting Hell podcast – and have bought (with my own money, which doesn’t happen very often! I think it helps further if you were a child or teenager in the 90's but I think you'd enjoy it regardless. It tells the story of the end of an era, the last time when watching television was a shared experience for the family and the nation, before the internet meant everyone watched different things at different times on different devices, headphones on to make absolutely sure no one else could watch it with them. It’s really lovely to have a book like this aimed at my specific age bracket as I’m not a traditional 80s, 90s or 00s kid/teenager (having been born mid-decade in 1985) but somewhere in between. We don't often get a chance to talk about the impacts of television (apart from news articles about the 'dangers'), so this was a refreshing read - a television equivalent of Acaster's "Perfect Sound Whatever".

More importantly in this post-TV age he hosts one of the country's most popular podcasts - Parenting Hell - with fellow comedian Rob Beckett and cult '90s football podcast Quickly Kevin; Will He Score? Filled with all the things they never tell you at antenatal classes, Parenting Hell is a beguiling mixture of humour, rumination and conversation for prospective parents, new parents, old parents and never-to-be parents alike. It will discuss everything from the BBC convincing him that Michael Parkinson had been possessed by a ghost, to Josh’s belief that Mr Blobby is one of the great comic characters, to what it’s like being the only vegetarian child west of Bristol. Josh is at his irritated best in this brand-new show recorded live in front of a packed house at the legendary Hammersmith Apollo.
